Martisor Day
Because it is March 1, our little Iepurașii surprised everyone by creating beautiful Mărțișor keepsakes for their mothers and grandmothers together with their teachers. Before they began their craft activity, the children learned about the legend of the Mărțișor and were fascinated by its story.
So, what is a Mărțișor, and what is the legend behind it?
A Mărțișor is a small decorative charm attached to a red-and-white string, traditionally given to loved ones on March 1 to celebrate the arrival of spring. Over the years, it has come to symbolize not only good luck but also renewal, hope, and the awakening of nature.
According to one of the most well-known legends, the Sun descended to Earth in the form of a beautiful young woman and was captured by a dragon. A brave young man fought the dragon to free her, shedding his blood onto the snow during the battle. When the Sun finally returned to the sky, the snow melted wherever the drops of blood had fallen, and the first snowdrops appeared—the first flowers to announce the arrival of spring.
Inspired by this beautiful story, the children enthusiastically created their own Mărțișor gifts with great care and affection. They proudly presented them to their mothers, wishing them a spring as beautiful and wonderful as they are.
